What makes Gia special
Every learner brings something important.
Gia uses augmentative and alternative communication, or AAC, to help express her thoughts, needs, choices, and questions. Her AAC device is one of the tools she uses to communicate and connect with others.
How Gia supports the crew
Building the bridge together
Gia reminds the crew to give everyone enough time and attention to communicate. Her friends listen to her words and messages without rushing, interrupting, or speaking for her.
Gia’s purpose
What children can learn
Gia helps children understand that communication can happen through speech, AAC, gestures, pictures, signs, writing, and other methods. She teaches that every person’s message matters, regardless of how it is expressed.
