Melody helps the crew explore different ways to share emotions and ideas. She also reminds her friends to face the person communicating, reduce unnecessary background noise, and make sure everyone can participate.

Melody helps children understand self-expression and provides representation for a difference that is not always visible. She shows that we should not make assumptions about what someone can hear, understand, or enjoy based only on appearance.
